The sunflower festival

It's a long holiday weekend here. It's been nice to have some time to explore the island a little more before he starts working. 

We heard that there was a sunflower festival not too far from us. So we googled it and off we went. It was so pretty! The yellows were so vibrant.  

I've always wondered where the sunflower seed comes from. The way the center of the flower looks I didn't see how the seeds come out. Until today. I saw that they were under the center blooms. I'm sure I'm slower at learning these things but I'm glad I've finally learned. 

Look at the size of the flower! I would love to turn that into a bow for Olivia!

We are finishing off our day with visiting friends. A couple of the guys Steven did his undergrad with are out here. One is finishing his tour here with his family and his other friend is here as part of his deployment. Both now have kids, so it's fun to see how they have changed for the better.
